On-ground works are underway as part of Stage 4 of the Kedron Brook Riverine Recovery project. Read our project update to see the latest progress and upcoming milestones.

August is proving to be a productive month for the DRFA Kedron Brook Riverine Recovery Project with Stage 4 well and truly underway and progressing to schedule. We are thrilled to report that excellent progress has been made with on-ground works at Site A and B with exciting steps ahead.

Thank you to the local community for your continued interest, patience and support as we work to revitalise these crucial sites. Below we have outlined key details about the project, completed milestones and what is coming up next.

Site A progress
Our on-site contractors have been hard at work establishing the site and completing initial earthworks. We have successfully completed reprofiling the banks, which included filling with engineered fill and compacting to meet our specific design slopes and levels. Installation of a rock toe is also finished which will support creek alignment.

Site B progress
Works are also well underway at Site B. The northern banks are currently being reprofiled and compacted with engineered fill, and a new toe is being established on the northern side of the creek. We are also currently working to carefully reprofile the southern bank to reinstate pre-build conditions.

Looking ahead, over the coming months our team will be progressing with the following actions at both Site A and Site B:

• Installation of timber pile fields to redirect energy away from vulnerable areas and support bank stabilisation.
• Placement of course woody debris and sediment in and near the channel to promote in-stream habitat for fish and other aquatic species and contribute to bank protection.
• Installation of biodegradable coir matting to support the establishment of plants and reduce sediment entering the creek.
• Dense planting of locally appropriate, native species, including fast-establishing grasses for early groundcover and shrubs and trees for long-term bank strength and biodiversity.

Across all sites, throughout this process, our team is continuously monitoring flora, fauna, sediment and erosion and instituting relevant controls to ensure the surrounding ecosystem and biodiversity remain protected.

Site D
The project team is currently busy with planning and logistics for Site D working towards commencement of mobilisation and site establishment in early September. We will continue to provide updates as we progress.

*Inclement weather and high flow events have the potential to delay the project, should any delays arise we will communicate updates with you as quickly as possible.
